As we officially resumed operations following the Chinese New Year holiday, our team came together to celebrate the first working day of the year — a meaningful tradition in many Chinese companies.
The first business day after the Lunar New Year is more than a calendar milestone. It represents renewal, good fortune, and a positive start for the year ahead. For our company, it is also an opportunity to reinforce team spirit and express appreciation for our employees.
A long-standing custom on the first working day is the giving of red envelopes (known as “Hongbao”) by company leadership. These envelopes symbolise good luck and prosperity for the coming year.
This year, our founder personally distributed red envelopes to each team member, sharing words of encouragement and gratitude. While the monetary value is symbolic, the gesture represents optimism, unity, and shared ambition for the months ahead.
In international business contexts, this tradition reflects a broader cultural emphasis on respect, motivation, and collective success.
Following the office gathering, the entire team enjoyed a traditional Cantonese dim sum breakfast together — another customary way to celebrate new beginnings in Southern China.
Dim sum, often served as a shared meal, symbolises abundance and harmony. Sitting around the table, colleagues exchanged New Year wishes, discussed goals for the coming quarters, and strengthened team relationships outside the formal work environment.
